I'm excited about starting out the new year with this class! I've been painting our Kauai landscapes for many years and still find fresh vistas and interpretations.

This is a small class with lots of individual instruction so it's perfect for students at every level of experience, including beginners. The class is designed for adults, however teens are also welcome and occasionally I have home-schoolers attend.

The class will meet six Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 12:00 at the Lihue Public Library conference room, starting on January 14th and continuing through February 18th, 2025. Space is limited and enrollment will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Your space will be reserved upon receipt of your tuition payment.

Students will bring their own art materials. I will send you a suggested supply list when you enroll. The conference room is comfortable and has a sink, air conditioning, wi-fi and ample parking.

Some of the topics we will cover will be: 

• How to creatively interpret a photograph in a creative manner.
• How to improve your drawing and observational skills, while developing your own handwriting,
• How to interpret color expressively, using a "split primary" watercolor palette.
• How to use the beautiful, playful medium of watercolor.
• How to use aerial perspective to give the illusion of atmosphere and depth in your paintings.
• How to honor and develop your own personal style.
• How to learn from art history by exploring masterworks.
