Hello everyone,
This is a small class, focusing on mastering the art of watercolor painting. It will include lots of individual instruction so it's perfect for students at every level of experience, including beginners. During these six classes we will focus on painting the Kauai landscape and seascape. The class is designed for adults, however teens are also welcome.
I believe art is for everyone! I am delighted with the creative community we have built, where every level of ability and experience is celebrated. Here, it's not about fitting into a mold. It's about embracing your own unique artistic journey and enjoying the process.
This class meets six Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 12:00 at the Lihue Public Library conference room, starting on May 26th through July 7th (no class on Tuesday, June 2nd).
On Tuesday, July 14th, we will have an optional day of outdoor painting, location to be announced. I will be there all day, from 9:00 to 5:00. You and your family and friends are welcome to stop by and join us anytime for a plein air painting experience. There is no charge and all are welcome! You may sketch, paint (in any medium) or just come and visit us, go for a walk and enjoy the outdoors.
Space in this watercolor class is limited to 12 students. Enrollment is on a first-come-first-served basis. Early registration is encouraged. Your space will be reserved upon receipt of your tuition payment. Tuition is $360 plus tax.
Students bring their own art materials. I will send you a suggested supply list when you enroll. The Library conference room is very comfortable and has a sink, air conditioning, wi-fi and ample parking.
Some of the topics we will cover will be:
- Learn how to creatively interpret a photograph.
- Learn the limitations of photos and how to compensate for them.
- Learn how to improve your drawing skills and develop your own handwriting.
- Learn how to use color expressively, using a "split primary" palette of 6 colors.
- Learn tricks that will help you use the unruly medium of watercolor.
- Learn ways to find and develop your own personal style.
- Learn about painting outdoors, from life. Discuss the differences between working from a photo reference and working "en plein air". (This is especially helpful to those of you who want to participate in our plein air painting days.)
